Gargunnock House an architectural jewel, a classic example of the gentleman’s shooting box, complete with open fires, flagstone floors, period details, spiraling staircases and Georgian furnishings. Like many Scottish houses, Gargunnock started life as a tower house in the 16th century. Over the next two hundred years wings were added and the rooms inside were remodelled in line with evolving tastes and patterns of life. In a final and impressive architectural conjuring trick, the last wing to be built, in 1794, was merged with its 17th century companion behind a tidy Georgian front. Visitors glimpsing it across the park from the south would be lulled into thinking it an apparently contemporary house. Outside, there are five acres of mature gardens, woodland walks, a walled garden and 18th century doocot, as well as a ladies church path that leads one into the nearby village – exploration will be encouraged!

Our week will include a mix of days out and days in, allowing you to experience life in a country house as well as the opportunity to explore the rich Scottish history in the area. Day trips will offer the opportunity for research at castles and stately homes, museums, charming time capsule villages and a once in a lifetime Land Rover Highland Safari with your own private ghillie. Cozy evenings will be spent honing your craft with your fellow authors or trying your hand at a fireside game of table tennis.

Day trips may include Sterling Castle and Bridge, the Wallace Monument, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Museum, a cruise on Loch Lomond, Glamis Castle and a day at Blair Castle including a half day Land Rover Highland Safari.

This is a unique opportunity to experience life in a period Scottish estate. Rooms will be shared, there is no television and no wifi, though you will be able to access wifi on our days out.
